~Burning Bowl - What Do You Want To Invite Into Your New Year?~
Bring on the New Year!
By Janine Bibeau
Every year my husband and I do a burning bowl ceremony. It's our way of saying goodbye to things of the old year and inviting positivity into the year ahead.
I like rituals. I love the magical component to this. I highly recommend trying this.

What you will need
Gather your materials and your loved ones. Take a few deep breathes together, light some candles and put on some music, have a glass of wine or cup of tea...create your tradition!
Instructions For Letting Go
1. Sit down with your thoughts for a moment. Think about the things that happened this year that you would like to lay to rest, leave behind, or just plain forget about. Some examples are sickness, fatigue, or job loss. Write each one down. I like to write each one on a separate piece of paper to be burned individually. You could also list them all on one sheet of paper and burn all at once.
2. Pour enough sand or salt into the bowl to cover the bottom. This will help to protect your bowl and extinguish any flames, but it is also another cleansing component of the ceremony.
3. Let each piece of paper burn in the bowl. This represents the "letting go" of what ever your wrote down. I like to read each one aloud and then carefully light the paper. Be safe! Make sure that your hair is tied back, that you do not have loose clothing, that the fire is extinguished before walking away, etc.
Instructions For Inviting In
1. Now sit down with your thoughts once again. On one sheet of paper, list all of the things that you would like to invite into your life in 2017. For example, you may want to invite more time for relaxation, more walks with your family, or a raise at your job. You can be as general or as specific as you would like.
2. This step is optional, but I feel that it is important and helps to really set intention and initiate positive energy. Read your list aloud.
3. Roll up your list and place it in a special spot. Each year, we roll ours up and place them in a small beautiful glass vase that was given to my parents on their wedding day. It sits on an alter in our room, along with items from nature that we find meaningful and special. The yearly lists are sheltered by a blanket of feathers we have gathered on hikes in the forest. We collect all of our lists, some people get rid of their list from the previous year. I have really enjoyed rereading my lists each year. That is up to you.
